Miro liked the collaborative nature of printmaking and from 1960 devoted more time to etchings and lithographs. One notable collaboration was the publication of a new Catalan translation of Saint Francis of Assisi's "Cantic Del Sol", for which Miro provided over thirty illustrations. The Cantic was composed in 1224 and is among the earliest works of literature in the Italian language. It celebrates in different verses the elements of creation: the Sun, Moon and Stars, Wind, Water, Fire and Earth and through them man's connection to the universe. The etchings/aquatints which Miró created for this project, though thematically reminiscent of his earlier "Constellations", are quite unlike anything he had done before. They are bold and colourful and technically interesting but also reveal the deep sensitivity of the artist.
